Obituaries : * Leona L. Parker; Civil Servant

Leona Loretta Parker, a longtime civil servant who worked at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme, died Dec. 22, at Los Robles Regional Medical Center. She was 63.

Born in Denver, Colo., on May 28, 1932, she attended Citrus College, then received an associate of arts degree from Santa Monica College. She began her civil service career as a clerk-typist at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado in 1951.

She later met and married Donald Parker, and the couple moved to England, where she worked for the U. S. Air Force.

She began work in Port Hueneme in 1983 with the Seabees’ environmental office. She later worked at the civil engineering laboratory in the Ocean Systems Division, then moved to the Naval Ships Weapons engineering office.

In 1988, she took a position at the Naval Facilities Contracts Office, where she rose from a procurement clerk to contracts specialist.

She is survived by her husband, Donald, of Thousand Oaks; and her son, Donald Parker Jr., also of Thousand Oaks. She was preceded in death in 1960 by her daughter, Karen Michelle Parker.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the CBC chapel in Port Hueneme. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garcia Mortuary in Oxnard.
