Fullerton Fiddles, Then Burns Pacific With Big Overtime, 79-69
Cal State Fullerton came to life just in time Thursday night.
The Titans took a 79-69 victory in overtime over Pacific, after overcoming a 13-point deficit in the second half of a Big West Conference game before 1,004 in Titan Gym.
The Titans overwhelmed Pacific by scoring 17 points to Pacific’s seven in the overtime. Fullerton, 2-8 overall, evened its conference record at 1-1. Pacific, 4-6, fell to 0-2 in the conference.
Reserve guard Ali Nayab scored a three-pointer with 1:30 to play in regulation to tie the score at 62 shortly after feeding John Williams for a layup that brought the Titans to within one at 60-59.
Both teams had chances to go ahead in the final minute of regulation but failed.
Fullerton took control quickly in the overtime. Williams sank two free throws and Chris Dade made a three-point jump shot to lift the Titans to a 67-62 lead in the overtime and Fullerton was in control the rest of the way.
Chuck Overton led Fullerton with 19 points. Williams added 16.
