Central Los Angeles : TASER DEATH
A 36-year-old man died Friday after police shot him with electric Taser darts in an alley on Jefferson Boulevard west of downtown, Los Angeles police said.
Officers responding to a 5 a.m. call about unspecified trouble in the alley found Byron Williams tearing at a mattress, said LAPD spokesman Eduardo Funes.
When Williams continued to act in a disturbed and aggressive manner, officers attempting to subdue him fired the darts, Funes said. Shortly afterward, Williams “appeared to be in distress” and was taken by ambulance to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 5:40 a.m. An autopsy will be performed and the incident remains under investigation, Funes said.
