Music: Record industry veteran Mike Curb is about to launch a joint-venture label with MCA Music Entertainment, the firm with which he has been embroiled in a bitter and lengthy legal battle since 1993, sources said. Curb and MCA, which had distributed on the Curb Records label, were disputing the ownership of the master recordings of the Judds, among other things. The legal dispute was resolved at the urging of new MCA Music Chairman Doug Morris, the executive who lured Curb to Time Warner’s Atlantic label before taking the reins of MCA’s record division last year. Sources said Curb’s new joint venture with MCA/Universal will not feature music from artists on Curb Records, which will continue to be distributed by Atlantic. Curb rejoins the MCA family still dogged by a lawsuit with another former distributor, EMI Music.
