MG Likely to Return Next Century: Rover Group’s roadster will return one day to the United States, but probably not in the current decade, Bayerische Motoren-Werke Chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder said. The MG’s return would have to be part of a “total relaunch” of the Rover brand in the U.S. market, he said. BMW, which owns Rover, receives “piles of mail” from U.S. owners of vintage MGs asking for the car’s return, Pischetsrieder said. The MG, first brought to America by GIs returning from England after World War II, was last sold in the United States in 1980. Although beloved by sports car enthusiasts, the MG Midget and MGB enjoyed at best a spotty reputation for quality and reliability.
