Camarillo Moves Ahead on Redevelopment

Share

The Camarillo City Council is forging ahead with plans to establish a redevelopment district to generate money to help spruce up the Old Town neighborhood along Ventura Boulevard.

Council members have unanimously directed their redevelopment consultant to prepare the necessary documents so the council can consider establishing the district at its Jan. 24 meeting.

“We all are concerned in regard to Old Town,” Councilman Stanley J. Daily said. “This sets up a mechanism with which we can assist” merchants and property owners.

City officials have not yet outlined the boundaries of the proposed redevelopment district, which would generate extra money for the city to upgrade Camarillo’s historic downtown core.

Before voting recently to pursue the redevelopment project, Councilman Mike Morgan said the city should have set up such a district years ago.

“If we had done this when it first came to council and I was jumping up and down 15 or 16 years ago, we’d already be into it,” Morgan said.
