Van Nuys : Church Gathering to Remember Quake

Share

Flashlights in hand, members of the Christ the King Lutheran Church congregation and community members will remember the Northridge temblor and look for signs of hope Tuesday on the eve of the earthquake’s second anniversary.

“We will shine our earthquake flashlights and sound our voices in prayers of hope for rebuilding, hope for community safety, hope for recovery [and] hope just for hope,” Pastor Ann Tiemeyer said.

Also during the ceremony, City Councilwoman Laura Chick will meet with the assembled group to discuss repairing damaged buildings on Vanowen Street.

Later, the group will tour two damaged buildings a block from the church--one where repair has just begun and another that is fenced off and graffiti-scarred.

“We hope as a church and as a community that we can help move the repairs along in a more timely manner,” Tiemeyer said.

The vigil is open to the public and will take place between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. at the church, 17400 Vanowen St., Van Nuys. For details, call Tiemeyer at (818) 342-0302.
