Two teenagers were killed when their car smashed into two trees during a drag race in Rowland Heights on Saturday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
Racing two other cars, the vehicle sped east on Colima Road at Fairway Drive at 95 mph at 10:20 p.m., Officer Garry Goldenberg said.
The driver slammed on the brakes and skidded, hitting the curb and plowing into the trees, Goldenberg said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was identified as Scott Tomblin, 16, of Rowland Heights, said Lt. Tom Schwabe of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
An unidentified passenger died at a nearby hospital, Goldenberg said.
The two other drivers fled, the CHP said.
