1911 House Has New Location, Paint Job

With its new paint job, the 1911 home that opened to the public last weekend is a handsome addition to the historic French Park area, neighbors agreed.

The house at 820 N. Lacy St. is expected to do more than look good: City officials and local residents hope it will be a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization.

Renovated with state grant money, the house was moved from its original downtown location to nearby French Park because it was in danger of being torn down to make way for a commercial project.

The Historic French Park Assn., which now owns the house, brought it to the neighborhood as part of its program to maintain the area’s historic flavor and will seek a buyer for it.

The refurbished house has light-green exterior paint with cream trim and new landscaping. The two-bedroom, 1 3/4-bath house is being listed for $155,000.

“It’s got a beautiful porch,” said Patricia Whitaker, the city’s housing manager. “They don’t make them like this anymore.”
