Candidates Disclose Campaign Finances

Candidates seeking to run for City Council positions in the upcoming March 26 special election have filed their campaign finance disclosure statements, as have the two council members being targeted for recall: Mayor Karen Lloreda and Mayor Pro Tem Harold R. Kaufman.

According to the statements, Kaufman received $11,286 in contributions, while Lloreda had collected $550 for the period ended Dec. 31.

Contributions to candidate Michael Eggers, 47, an aide for Rep. Ron Packard (R-Oceanside), totaled $1,400, while contributions to teacher and businessman Bill Lane, 41, came to $546.

Contributions to retired businesswoman Ruby L. Netzley totaled $844.

No statement was filed for Douglas Bitter, 48, a mortgage broker who has filed to run against Kaufman if he is recalled.

In addition, CARE Dana Point, a committee to oppose the recall of Lloreda and Kaufman, reported collecting $19,779.40. And Citizens Help Against Non-representative Government and Excesses, the group behind the recall effort, collected $1,121.30.
