South Bay : DNA EVIDENCE

Inglewood police have arrested a Hawthorne man suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting four women waiting at the drive-through window of an El Pollo Loco restaurant during six months in 1995 and claim to have DNA evidence to link him to the crime.

Darius Lamont Goodwin, 22, was charged last week with 21 counts of sexual assault, according to Inglewood Sgt. Bill Thompson. He said Goodwin, who was arrested during a routine surveillance of the area, is also charged with raping a fifth woman near the restaurant.

Thompson said police secured a blood sample from Goodwin after he was arrested last summer, because none of the victims could identify the suspect. Goodwin’s DNA sample matched the DNA in the semen taken from the victims, police said.

“We knew in light of the O.J. trial that DNA analysis might be suspect, but we’re quite sure the evidence is sound and hope to get a conviction in court,” Thompson said.
