Three people remained hospitalized Thursday after an eight-vehicle pileup on the Ventura Freeway near California 23 in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.
The chain-reaction collision occurred during rush hour Wednesday afternoon, when a northbound car stopped for an unknown reason about 5:45 p.m. and seven vehicles behind it plowed into each other, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. Freeway traffic backed up for at least two miles.
Martin McKinney, 64, of Thousand Oaks, received serious injuries in the accident and is reported in good and stable condition at Westlake Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Two others, Danielle Muse, 18, and Kelli Fina, 18, both of Newbury Park, received moderate injuries and were in Los Robles Medical Center in good and stable condition on Thursday.
At least 10 people, all from the Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and Woodland Hills areas, were involved in the accident, the CHP spokesman said.
