Manufacturer Recalls Gorgonzola Cheese

BelGioioso Cheese Inc. said it is recalling about 2,200 pounds of creamy Gorgonzola because of possible bacterial contamination.

The cheese wheels were distributed under the BelGioioso brand and the label of Auricchio Cheese Co. of Denmark, Wis.

BelGioioso said the recall involved Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause listeriosis, a flu-like illness that poses little risk to people in good health but can be dangerous for babies, fetuses and people with reduced immunity.

The 113 wheels were distributed with production dates of 9/26/95 and 9/27/95 to California, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Washington, Colorado, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas.
