Rancho Santiago Will Renew Presence in City

Share

The Rancho Santiago Community College District has struck a deal with Garden Grove to reestablish a comprehensive education center in that city.

In 1992, Rancho Santiago closed its education center on Newhope Avenue in Garden Grove. The district operated a Sheriff’s Academy, which is now at another location in Garden Grove, and a number of other vocational programs, which were moved to the district’s Orange campus.

Garden Grove has leased a 30,000-square-foot building at 11277 Garden Grove Blvd. to house the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce and the city’s job training program for the next 10 years, district officials said.

Rancho Santiago’s board of trustees voted this week to sublease 24,000 square feet of that building for various vocational programs.

The agreement calls for Garden Grove to subsidize Rancho Santiago’s lease for the next five years. It will pay $235,873 of the total lease cost each year, while the college district pays $75,167 this year and for 1997; $81,388 for 1998 and 1999; and $87,733 for the year 2000.

For the five years from 2001 to 2005, the college district will pay the full lease cost, which will top $336,680 in 2005.
