Police are searching for a man suspected of raping a 31-year-old woman Tuesday night on a residential street in north Laguna Beach and stealing her jewelry, officials said.

Police were notified about 11:15 p.m. by officials at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach that a Fullerton woman in the emergency room said she had been raped, Sgt. Doris Weaver said.

The woman told police she had met the man in a Corona del Mar park earlier that evening and the two had driven in separate cars to a Laguna Beach restaurant for dinner. Afterward, she was following him to his house, which he said was in north Laguna Beach, when he stopped his car and got out, police said. As the two talked outside their cars, he became physically aggressive and raped her, the woman told police.
