A Beef With False Talk About Food

Share

It’s sad that our society has come to the point of passing veggie libel laws as reported in your Jan. 18 article, “Mind How You Disparage Asparagus or Berate Broccoli.” Such laws undoubtedly inhibit free speech.

However, as a cattlewoman, I know how frustrating it can be to hear slanderous misinformation about your product and not be able to do much about it. For years, I’ve read and heard misinformation in the media about beef, myths that were created by activists and not verified by journalists.

I agree that people should be able to discuss topics such as food quality without the fear of being sued. At the same time, what good does it do to make food choices based on blatant lies designed to slander a product?
