Winnetka : 2 Teenagers Face Trial in Paint-Ball Attacks

Share

Two San Fernando Valley teenagers Wednesday were held to answer charges of randomly attacking pedestrians and bicyclists with a baseball bat and paint-ball guns.

Municipal Court Judge Jessica Perrin Silvers ordered Ruffy Flores, 18, of Chatsworth, and Malcom Boyd, 19, of Van Nuys, held on $100,000 bail for trial on one count each of felony vandalism and 15 counts each of assault with a deadly weapon, Deputy Dist. Atty. Bob Cohen said.

During the two-day preliminary hearing, prosecutors played a videotape recorded by the youths Nov. 10 showing them firing dozens of bruising paint pellets from a car at pedestrians and bicyclists along Winnetka Avenue near Sherman Way.

A Los Angeles Police Department patrol cruiser happened upon one man who had just been shot with the paint pellets, which travel as fast as 300 feet per second and are used in “war games” in which participants wear protective helmets and clothing.

The man, bleeding from his injuries, directed the police to the car, where the officers arrested Flores, Boyd and two juveniles.
