The City Council has matched a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the deaths of two Placentia residents in a freeway crash last fall.

A similar reward has been posted by families of the victims, William Baughn, 21, and Jennifer Twohy, 19. Four of their friends, all Placentia residents, were injured in the Sept. 30 collision.

Maureen Williams, Baughn’s mother, thanked the council, adding that apprehending those who caused the accident would “put closure to this in our lives.”

William Baughn and Twohy were killed on the Santa Ana Freeway near Alton Parkway in Irvine. The six friends were riding in a Ford Bronco that flipped three times after being sideswiped by one of two cars racing on the freeway.

The car that struck the Bronco was described as a late-1970s to mid-1980s dark blue Mercury Capri or Chevrolet hatchback coupe. The other car is believed to be a black 1994 Honda, either a Civic or Del Sol.

Investigators request that anyone with information call (714) 547-8311.
