Lemieux Scores 47th Goal as the Penguins Win, 6-3

Mario Lemieux scored his league-leading 47th goal and had three assists as the Penguins ended Chicago’s nine-game unbeaten streak with a 6-3 victory over the Blackhawks on Saturday at Pittsburgh.

Chicago, playing without leading scorer Jeremy Roenick and enforcer Bob Probert, saw its 7-0-2 streak end with its first loss since Jan. 17.

Roenick missed the game because of a concussion and hairline fracture of the jaw suffered Thursday against St. Louis, and Probert was serving a suspension after an elbowing incident in that game.

Detroit 3, Tampa Bay 2--The Red Wings took advantage of the Blackhawks’ loss to increase their lead in the Central Division by beating the Lightning in overtime at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Sergei Fedorov poked the rebound from Steve Yzerman’s shot under goaltender Daren Puppa 52 seconds into overtime for his 23rd goal of the season and seventh game-winner.

N.Y. Rangers 3, New Jersey 0--Bill Guerin scored two goals and Martin Brodeur made 24 saves to earn his 10th career shutout as the Devils extended their unbeaten streak to eight games by stopping the Rangers at East Rutherford, N.J. Steve Thomas had the Devils’ other goal. Petr Sykora assisted on all three scores.

Montreal 5, Ottawa 3--Pavol Demitra and Antti Tormanen scored 19 seconds apart in the second period as the Senators ended a five-game losing streak with the victory at Montreal. The Senators had lost their previous nine games against the Canadiens.

Buffalo 2, Toronto 2--Jason Dawe scored with 2:54 left in regulation to give the Sabres a tie at Toronto, preventing the Maple Leafs from registering their first victory over the Sabres since 1991.

Winnipeg 3, Calgary 3--Teppo Numminen’s goal with 12.7 seconds left in the third period gave the Jets the victory at Calgary. The goal came on a screened shot from just inside the blue line and capped a two-goal uprising by Winnipeg in the third.

Philadelphia 6, Boston 2--Eric Lindros capped a three-goal second period with his 34th goal as the Flyers beat the Bruins at Boston. Lindros also assisted on two power-play goals by Pat Falloon and another goal by Karl Dykhuis.

St. Louis 6, Dallas 3--Rookie defenseman Christer Olsson scored his first two NHL goals and Geoff Courtnall also had two goals as the Blues kept the Stars winless in their last nine home games.

Vancouver 4, Washington 4--Jyrki Lumme’s unassisted goal with 4:02 to play capped a wild third period and gave the Canucks a tie with the Capitals at Vancouver.
