Titans’ Clifford Places Second at Gymnastics Meet

Cristi Clifford of Cal State Fullerton was second in the women’s all-around and in the vault Saturday at the UCLA/Gilda Marx Gymnastics Invitational at Pauley Pavilion.

Clifford trailed BYU’s Angela Anderson by a slim margin for the individual title, 39.000-38.975. She tied teammate Heather Fritzche and Arizona’s Jessica Marshall with a score of 9.775 to take second place in the vault.

Cal State Fullerton was fourth 191.125 points. UCLA won the tournament with a score of 194.225.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Concordia 79, Fresno Pacific 69--Pharoah Jones scored 19 points and had eight rebounds for Concordia (17-8, 6-4). Teammate Tarik James scored 16 points.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Fresno Pacific 67, Concordia 64--Tamika Harold scored 18 points and had 15 rebounds for Fresno Pacific (16-9, 7-2). Jaime Gast scored 20 points for Concordia (19-7, 6-3).

Heather Carll scored 14 points and had 15 rebounds for the Eagles.

In nonconference swimming:

UC Irvine loses--UC Irvine’s men’s and women’s teams lost to UC Santa Barbara in nonconference meets. Ofer Horn won the 50 freestyle (22.17) and Omar Amr won the 200 individual medley (1:58.18) for the Anteater men, who lost, 156-85.

The women, who lost 152-78, were led by Gwen Yoshizumi. Yoshizumi won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.11.

At the Claremont Invitational Track Relays:

Southern California College wins distance medley--Aimee Buxman, Isis Orjel, Erin Culver and Nikee Pool combined to set a school record and win the distance medley (880, 440, 1320, 1760) with a time of 13 minutes flat. The Vanguards also placed second in the sprint medley (100, 100, 200, 400) with a time of 2:36.38.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:

Long Beach State 3, Pacific 1--Martin Wagner and Tom Hoff each had 20 kills and Steve Walker had 67 assists for the undefeated 49ers (7-0, 4-0), who won, 3-15, 15-7, 15-10, 15-11.
