Two men were arrested Friday night by undercover officers who saw them cruise through a southeast Santa Ana neighborhood and commit a drive-by shooting, wounding two people.

Santa Ana Police Sgt. Ken Ice said the officers saw the pair drive on East Emmett Street about 9 p.m. and fire several shots at a residence.

The car sped off, followed by officers in unmarked police cars, and was stopped on South Van Ness Avenue. Officers arrested Rudy Martinez, 21, of Orange, and Michael Herrera, 19, of Santa Ana, police said.

Ice said that officers found two handguns inside the vehicle.

Mark Montanez, 27, and Jennifer Jones, 23, suffered minor wounds in the shooting, police said. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment, Ice said.

The officers, including members of the gang task force and a special unit of officers from throughout the county that tracks auto thefts, were investigating gang activity and looking for stolen cars at the time of the shooting, Ice said.
