SAUGUS — A man leaving his disabled car was struck and killed by a truck Monday in Saugus, authorities said.
Just before 6 p.m., a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant saw the man sitting in a broken-down Honda Accord in an eastbound lane of Soledad Canyon Road near Golden Triangle Road, said Deputy Benita Nichol.
When the sergeant approached to offer assistance, the man, Ignacio Jimenez, left the car and walked to the traffic median, Nichol said.
The 31-year-old Canyon Country resident then ignored the sergeant’s plea to stop and walked into traffic, Nichol said. He was then struck by a woman driving a Chevrolet Blazer, the deputy said.
Jimenez was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he was pronounced dead, she said.
Witnesses said the man was driving erratically before striking the curb and stopping. An open container of beer was found in the Honda, Nichol said.
