TREASURE ISLAND: Consider it the ultimate field trip. . . . Hundreds of schoolchildren take a cruise to Anacapa Island every year to touch squirmy critters and learn about the ocean. . . . But some kids can’t afford it. So Friends of Channel Islands National Park subsidizes some young adventurers. The annual fund-raiser, a jog-a-thon, walk-a-thon, bicycle and kayak event, will be held March 3 at the Ventura Harbor. “Whatever your mode of transport,” says coordinator Jon Avery, “we can take care of you.” Info: 658-5740.

SURF’S UP: Scores of Internet surfers may soon be washing into the Channel Islands Harbor Visitor Center, given the harbor’s new e-mail address and upgraded Web page (D5C). . . . Officials say they hit the information highway to compete with other tourist spots now promoting themselves online. . . . “San Francisco, Catalina and Palm Springs are on the Internet,” said Susan O’Brien, marketing director for the harbor. “We wanted to keep up with those tourist areas.”

Misspelled name--The surname of producer Harry Winer was misspelled Tuesday in a Calendar article on the filming of a movie about the L.A. riots.

PRIZE POOCH: OK, sure he’s a champion, his victory broadcast coast to coast from Madison Square Garden in New York. But look at that face. You know it hasn’t gone to his head. . . . Laurelton Hurricane Huckelbury won best of opposite breed of smooth fox terriers at last week’s Westminster Dog Show. . . . Now back home in Thousand Oaks, the 16-month-old family pet is his zany self, said owner Pat Michael. “He just runs and runs and runs,” Michael said. “He’s crazy.”

RIOT REVISITED: Simi Valley has the dubious honor of co-starring in a two-hour Showtime movie about the 1992 Los Angeles riots (F1), which were touched off when Ventura County jurors acquitted L.A. cops of beating motorist Rodney King. . . . Showtime plans to air the film next year, on the fifth anniversary of the riots. . . . “Those old hostilities are ever-present,” producer Harry Weiner said. “They have not been calmed; they’re just resting.”
