Fire Damages Classrooms at Esperanza High
An early morning fire scorched several classrooms Thursday at Esperanza High School, forcing school officials to move about 150 students to other classrooms, fire officials said.
Firefighters summoned to the school, in the 1800 block of North Kellogg Drive, about 3:30 a.m. found a modular classroom behind the school ablaze, Battalion Chief Roger Smith said. The fire spread to five adjacent modular buildings before being brought under control by 28 firefighters in about 35 minutes.
No one was on campus at the time of the fire, Smith said. Students who regularly attend classes in the modular buildings were moved to other rooms Thursday, but most were expected to return to their regular classrooms today. Authorities estimated fire damages to be about $140,000.
The cause of the fire was unknown, and the investigation is continuing, Smith said.
