Boy Riding Bike Is in Coma After Being Hit by Car
A 13-year-old boy was in a coma Saturday after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Imperial Highway while riding his bicycle.
California Highway Patrol Officer Angel Johnson said Edward Boone and a friend were riding their bicycles home after watching a movie when Edward was struck at 11:45 p.m. Friday. The other boy was not hit and escaped injury.
The incident happened just north of Lakeview Avenue. Officers are looking for a 1992 white Ford pickup truck with a broken right headlamp. The truck was headed south on Imperial, traveling at about 50 mph, when it drifted to the shoulder and struck the youth, Johnson said.
The boys were riding on the road shoulder, against traffic, when the accident happened. Edward was in critical condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
