Fullerton Gets by Saddleback in Grand Style
Poncho Ruiz hit a grand slam and drove in eight runs and Marc Anspach hit a grand slam and drove in seven as Fullerton beat host Saddleback, 30-9, in the Orange Empire Conference baseball opener for both teams Saturday.
Fullerton (10-2) had a 14-run second inning that included Ruiz’s grand slam and Anspach’s three-run double. Fullerton sent 20 batters to the plate in the inning and Saddleback made two errors, which made 13 of the 14 runs unearned.
Ruiz also had two doubles and two singles in the game. Saul Archuleta had two doubles and had four hits and scored five runs.
Jason Theis and Curt Lee each scored four runs for Fullerton, which got home runs from Andy Tellez and Mike Ortiz.
Jon Laudedale and Mike Loosbroock hit home runs for Saddleback (8-3, 0-1).
