County OKs Changes at Airports Agency
Preparing for ambitious plans to upgrade the Camarillo and Oxnard airports, the Board of Supervisors has reorganized management at the county Department of Airports.
The changes in job classification and organization included elevating Airport Administrator Rod Murphy to director of airports and giving him an $11,012 raise in annual pay and benefits.
The supervisors approved the staff-recommended changes Tuesday despite the objections of Don Hollingsworth, a retired airline pilot in Camarillo and frequent critic of the county’s airport management.
Among his complaints, Hollingsworth said the reorganization plans do not seem needed given that the level of activity--takeoffs and landings--have declined in recent months.
Supervisor Judy Mikels said she has spent an inordinate amount of time scrutinizing the county airport authority and has concluded that the changes are worthwhile.
