If sheriff’s deputies have to make a second call because of complaints of loud noise at a party, the city will soon be able to fine the host at least $500.

Under a new ordinance approved by the City Council on Tuesday night, “the city reserves its rights to seek reimbursement for actual costs exceeding $500.”

“In the event the city is required to institute any legal proceeding to recover such costs,” the new statute states, “it shall be entitled to additionally collect all costs, including attorney’s fees. . . . “

For a first complaint, a deputy will give the party host a warning card. If officers are called back, the $500 fine and other fees may be levied.

City Atty. Leonard Hampel said the law takes effect in 30 days.
