The city and the U.S. Postal Service on Thursday unveiled street banners depicting postage stamps of famous American women to kick off the ninth annual West Hollywood Women’s History Month celebration.

The 18 banners, displayed at City Hall and hung across Santa Monica Boulevard, were created by the Postal Service and depict commemorative stamps issued in honor of women who made historical contributions. The city and Postal Service split the cost of the banners, estimated at $6,000, city officials said.

“The banners are an opportunity for the public to see the many faces of the women who made this country a better place,” said West Hollywood City Councilwoman Abbe Land.
