South Bay : Police Seeking Owners of Stolen Power Tools

Share

Redondo Beach police have seized thousands of dollars worth of construction-type tools and they are looking for the rightful owners.

The equipment was recovered when police received a tip that an undisclosed Los Angeles secondhand store was selling stolen property. Many of the items have been traced to Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach residents who had reported burglaries, and police plan to display remaining items Monday.

“People have got to start locking their garages,” Det. Rody Contreras said. “There are lots of people who are not interested in breaking into the house, but they’ll do a garage if it’s left open.”

Contreras said 38 burglaries were reported in Redondo Beach in January, 16 of which were garage thefts. He said this is the largest such seizure ever made by local police.

The tools will be on display at 6 p.m. Monday at the Redondo Beach Library at 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway.
