The U.S. premiere of British architect Alan Parkinson’s Meggopolis, a giant, rainbow-colored, walk-in installation, will highlight the 11th annual Imagination Celebration. The festival of arts for youths will be held April 20 through May 5 at sites throughout Orange County.

The maze-like Meggopolis, composed of 10 huge, connected plastic domes reflecting natural light like a prism, is one of the festival’s 50 attractions, exhibits, workshops and performances. Other top events include appearances by Pilobolus Dance Theatre (May 1) and American Indian Dance Theatre (May 5) at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

The center, along with the Orange County Department of Education, produces Imagination Celebration, started by the Kennedy Center in Washington and staged in communities nationwide.

Among other events taking place at museums, community centers, schools and assorted venues are an exhibit of art by students with disabilities at MainPlace/Santa Ana and an archeological dig at Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Meggopolis will be installed as part of the Imaginarium (May 4, 5), an outdoor cultural playground adjacent the center featuring performances and hands-on workshops.

Most festival events are free. Maximum admission to any activity is $6. All but in-school performances are open to the public. Information: (714) 556-2122, ext 888.
