Leather Outlet Is Worth the Hunt

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

You zigzag around the back roads of Burbank following the arrows leading to the Leather Warehouse. A guide at each sign offers more instruction. But even when you get there, you still can’t find it. That’s because the “warehouse” is a factory add-on that looks as though it was once a shipping area.

If you love good leather apparel at about half retail prices, this outlet is well worth the hunt. The goods from a San Fernando Valley manufacturer are top quality. They are also about 2 years old, which in most cases is no problem because the styles are classics.

Check out the accessories up front. Some suede-lined cowhide phone cases that retail for $75 were originally reduced to $49.99. But a sign now marks them 30% off, so the price comes to $34.99.

Some of the labels you’ll find here are Serafino, 4U, Extremes and New Age, with the last two being the least expensive. The real deal is the Michael Lawrence line, which you’ll find in pricey boutiques around the country.

A man’s blazer that originally sold for $595 is marked $275. For women, a $415 blazer can be yours for $199.99. Much of the Michael Lawrence apparel is made of Italian lambskin, as soft and supple as it gets. Three-quarter length coats for men and women that retailed at $625 are $295.

Management says the biggest seller is the motorcycle jacket with all the trimmings, which goes for $79.99 instead of the original $169. Personally, I found the black, water-repellent trench coats made of pig napa to be very cool. They’re $149 (retail $295) for men and $219 (retail $430) for women.

Leather Warehouse, 675 S. Glenwood Ave., Burbank 91506. (818) 848-9337. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only.
