UAW Strike Halts Production at GM Engine Plant: The development is the first casualty in the walkout by 3,000 workers at two General Motors Corp. brake plants that is threatening the auto maker’s assembly lines. Meanwhile, about 300 of the striking workers at the two GM Delphi Chassis returned to work to continue supplying other auto makers and prevent GM from losing those contracts. United Auto Workers members went on strike Tuesday over safety and job security issues, including the production of parts by outside suppliers. Another round of talks is scheduled for today. The No. 1 auto maker said the strike has not affected auto assembly lines. An engine plant in Lansing, Mich., stopped production at the end of the first shift, however, a GM spokesman said.
