Studio City : River Channel Walls to Get Quake Repairs

Share

Earthquake damage to the access ramps and channel walls along the Los Angeles River in Studio City will be repaired by fall, a spokesman for Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said Wednesday.

Repair of the cracks and crumbling concrete has been delayed as engineers have prioritized the severity of damage from the January 1994 Northridge earthquake, county officials said.

“There was a lot of damage to a lot of facilities, and some of the repairs will probably be going on for years,” said Yaroslavsky spokesman Joel Bellman.

A portion of the estimated $700,000 to $1.2-million cost of the project is reimbursable under state and federal disaster assistance programs, Bellman said.

Bids will be taken beginning April 2 and the work should get underway in May and be completed in October, Bellman said.
