Hospital’s Future Public Meeting Topic
State and local officials tonight will host a public meeting to discuss the future of Camarillo State Hospital, which has been recommended for closure by Gov. Pete Wilson.
The two-hour session will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive.
Scores of hospital workers are expected to urge council members and local representatives in the state Legislature to support a plan to keep the hospital open by stocking it with a new population of mentally ill criminals.
Others are expected to oppose that recommendation, raised recently by the director of the state Department of Mental Health.
For more information about the meeting, call Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) at 522-2920.
