Bids for Traffic Signal Project Being Accepted

The city of Agoura Hills is accepting bids for a new traffic signal and other safety improvements at Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Forest Cove Lane.

The project, which officials estimate will cost $130,000, includes a traffic light, left-turn signals for Thousand Oaks Boulevard, crosswalks and wheelchair ramps.

It is expected to be complete by September, officials said.

It had been placed on hold due to lingering questions over whether funding would be available, city officials said.

However, at the midyear budget review last month, city officials decided to proceed with the project because it was considered a pressing safety issue, Mayor Ed Corridori said.

The money will come from the city’s general fund, said Elaine Graves, the city’s director of finance.

The funds, she said, originated from a utility tax implemented by the City Council in 1994.

Other capital improvement projects have been placed on hold, she said, until lingering questions over Proposition 62, a successful 1986 state ballot measure that required voter approval for new general and special taxes, have been resolved.

After the California Supreme Court upheld the provisions of Proposition 62 last year, a local anti-tax group demanded that Agoura Hills comply with the ruling.
