City Hall to Close Every Other Friday

The people at Hawthorne City Hall are taking the day off. Or at least every other Friday off. In an effort to cut down on traffic, save electricity and cut expenses, Hawthorne city officials decided it would be better to close City Hall every other Friday. However, the city has expanded its operating hours during the rest of the week.

“We have to do something to reduce our employee trips to work,” explained city spokesman Tom Quintana. “And it’s a matter of working harder and smarter.”

From Monday through Thursday, City Hall is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will be open every other Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This month, City Hall will be closed March 15 and 29. Hawthorne will keep this schedule for six months to see if it helps save money. The new hours will not affect the police and fire departments.
