A federal agency released a report listing nine Orange County hospitals among those nationwide with very high mortality rates among Medicare patients.
Hospital officials called the report misleading because it was based on a small number of patients without regard to age or illness. “The Medicare patient is usually the sicker patient,” a spokesman said.
