COSTA MESA — The Orange County office of Sverdrup Facilities Inc. landed a $20-million contract to design and build military family housing at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. The contract won’t result in any additional hiring to supplement the 250 employees at Sverdrup’s Costa Mesa office. The project, scheduled to be completed in the fall of 1997, is the first of what the St. Louis design-and-construction firm hopes will be a big increase in military housing work. With base closings and consolidations, the military has to build new housing to accommodate the realignment of troops, said Sverdrup spokesman Jerry Bryan.
