Getty to Spin Off Petroleum Marketing Unit: Jericho, N.Y.-based Getty Petroleum Corp. will retain its real estate business and lease most of its properties to the new company, which will be called Getty Petroleum Marketing Inc. Getty will change its name to Getty Realty Corp. The decision to split the company reflects the different strategies, growth opportunities and capital requirements of the two units, said Leo Liebowitz, Getty president and chief executive. Getty Petroleum is an independent marketer of gasoline products. The oil company is a remnant of the Getty Oil Co. empire of billionaire J. Paul Getty.
