Voters to Weigh In on Need for Parkland Tax

Recreation Improvements

Measure GG on the March 26 ballot in Huntington Beach will gauge voter support for a citywide park and beach improvement district that would raise $25 million over 15 years. Details:

* Annual assessment: Mobile homes, $12; apartment units, $24; residential and commercial units, $36

* Improvements: Building soccer, football, softball, baseball fields; converting closed school sites for youth sports; adding restrooms, showers and lighting at beach and pier; building an aquatics complex; buying a site for a senior citizens center; improving “tot lots” at parks citywide.

* Argument for: Would give city funds to make improvements it cannot now afford.

* Argument against: Residents already pay enough taxes, and levy would cost more than projected.
