Countywide : Preserve System Vote Likely to Be Delayed

Share

The Orange County Planning Commission will likely delay until April 3 a decision on creating a massive wildlife preserve system in the county’s central and coastal areas.

The vote, originally set for today, is being postponed to allow more time for review of the proposed 39,000-acre mosaic-like preserve intended to protect rare plants and animals.

The effort has drawn national attention because it attempts to balance environmental and development interests.

Some design changes have been suggested, such as shrinking the reserve size by more than 1,300 acres, and government planners have assembled a thick volume of responses to the 73 letters from the public sparked by the plan.

Information about those responses is available by calling (714) 834-6105.
