The yellow brick road has never been so slippery. But Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion will have no trouble negotiating the surface when they put on their ice skates.

In this twist on the classic L. Frank Baum story of a young girl’s journey over the rainbow, “The Wizard of Oz on Ice” is a $9-million production touring in 32 countries on a two-year tour. Some of the popular icons from the 1939 film will be reshaped for the ice spectacular, including Munchkinland, the Horse of a Different Color and, of course, the Wicked Witch of the West.

The production utilizes a cast of professional skaters, along with such talents as Olympic gold medalist Robin Cousins, a choreographer and skating consultant on the show, and musical acrobat Bobby McFerrin. McFerrin provides the singing and speaking voices of all but one (Dorothy) of the 53 characters in the show, including Toto.
