Van Nuys : 2 Men Ransack House, Handcuff Woman

Share

Two men posing as IRS agents handcuffed and then robbed a Van Nuys woman at her home, taking cash and some credit cards.

LAPD Det. Greg Demirjian of the Van Nuys Division said the unidentified woman was sitting inside her home in the 7700 block of Greenbush Avenue about 9 p.m. Wednesday with the door wide open when the men walked in. The men, wearing hats and blazers imprinted with the letters IRS, claimed they had a search warrant and then handcuffed the woman. Observing their attire and politeness, the woman initially believed the men were real representatives of the Internal Revenue Service.

“It’s very weird,” Demirjian said. “They treated her fairly nice actually. They left things of value in the house, including a weapon. And these guys usually always take the guns.”

After ransacking the home and inquiring about a safe that they hoped contained cash, the men fled on foot with credit cards and less than $100 in cash, police said. The woman was uninjured.

Demirjian said he believes the men targeted the home because of the safe.
