Van Halen has recorded two new pieces--a rocker titled “Humans Being” and an instrumental--for the soundtrack of the upcoming tornado thriller “Twister.” The band plans to start work on a new album in a few months. Others expected to have new songs on the “Twister” soundtrack, due in May, include Mick Jagger, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alison Krauss, Lisa Loeb and the Goo Goo Dolls. . . .

Tom Petty will do the score and write four new songs for “She’s the One,” the next feature from “Brothers McMullen” filmmaker Ed Burns. . . . “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter is slated to direct a video next month for Danzig’s “Deep,” the first single from the “Songs in the Key of X” album inspired by the show, with stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny expected to appear in the clip. Meanwhile, Glen Danzig has hired show-biz attorney Don Engel to explore voiding the rocker’s contract with American Recordings so he can look for a new label. . . .

Portland group Team Dresch--whose shows mix punk music with self-defense lessons--has a new album, “Captain, My Captain” due May 13, with member Kaia set with a solo album this summer. Both are on Dresch leader Donna Dresch’s indie Chainsaw label.
