DECORATED DOGFACES

Share

The 100th Battalion of the Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team was not the “most highly decorated unit” in World War II (Letters, March 10). For Distinguished (Presidential) Unit Citations, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) hold that honor; in individual awards, it’s the 30th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division.

Exaggeration of the marvelous record of the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team does not enhance it. Political correctness should not play a role in assigning the relative worth of infantry units during WWII. All of them went through hell on Earth.
