Goaltender Grant Fuhr made 37 saves as the St. Louis Blues tied Detroit, 2-2, Sunday night at St. Louis, ending the Red Wings’ nine-game winning streak.

It was the 73rd consecutive start for Fuhr, who is two games shy of tying his own mark for most games in a season by a goalie. Fuhr established the mark in 1987-88 with the Edmonton Oilers.

Chris Osgood stopped 27 shots for Detroit and extended his unbeaten streak to 20 games, though he had his 13-game winning streak broken by the tie. Detroit has allowed two or fewer goals in nine of its last 11 games.

Wayne Gretzky and Adam Creighton scored for the Blues. Gretzky has 15 points in 12 games with St. Louis.

The Red Wings’ Dino Ciccarelli was held without a point, ending his nine-game scoring streak.

Colorado 5, Winnipeg 2--Joe Sakic scored twice as the Avalanche beat the Jets at Winnipeg.

Claude Lemieux, Peter Forsberg and Troy Murray also scored for Colorado. Craig Janney scored twice for the Jets.

Pittsburgh 8, New York Rangers 2--Sergei Zubov scored twice in a six-goal second period as the Penguins crushed the Rangers at New York to take over first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Penguins played without Mario Lemieux, who rested following Saturday night’s 7-5 loss to Buffalo. But they didn’t need the league’s leading scorer as Zubov and Petr Nedved, two former Rangers traded in the off-season, took up the slack.

Zubov also had an assist and Nedved had a goal and four assists as the Penguins extended the Rangers’ home-ice winless streak to nine (0-5-4). It’s a reversal of form for the Rangers, who had posted a club record-tying 24-game unbeaten streak at home earlier in the season.

Edmonton 3, Ottawa 2--The Oilers scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Senators at Ottawa.

Kelly Buchberger scored the winner short-handed at 10:39, converting a breakaway set up by goalie Curtis Joseph’s backhanded pass from his own goalmouth.
