Husband Arrested in Domestic Case

A Camarillo man, suspected of threatening to kill his wife and family Monday, was booked on suspicion of domestic violence, a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

The department had received a tense 911 call about 12:50 p.m. from the man’s wife, who told officers that her husband--Jess Papanier, 31--was at the home, armed with a rifle and threatening to kill the family, said Senior Deputy Chuck Buttell.

Several deputies and a department helicopter responded to the call and cordoned off the area around the home on the 200 block of Dawson Drive. The California Highway Patrol also assisted in blocking off Dawson Drive to traffic, Buttell said.

While deputies sealed off the area, the woman called back to say that she and the children were out of the home, but that her husband was still there and armed with a rifle and handgun.

Because Papanier would not answer the phone, members of the Sheriff’s Department’s hostage negotiation team had to use a bull horn to coax him out of the residence, Buttell said.

“It all ended peacefully,” he said. “We arrested him for domestic violence and on outstanding warrants.”

Papanier was booked into Ventura County Jail on $10,000 bail.
