Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON : Sea Lion Cage Destroyed in Seattle

An animal-rights group dismantled a huge cage placed to trap sea lions that had been dining on steelhead trout at the Ballard Locks, the Animal Liberation Front and state wildlife officials said. It was the first day that Washington state Fish and Wildlife Department officials could begin killing the animals. Officials said they had originally planned only to trap and tag them. The ones that continued to eat the trout, they said, would be recaptured and killed by lethal injection.
