Nation IN BRIEF : MONTANA : ‘Freemen’ Arrested Without Incident

Two leaders of the militant “freemen” anti-government group were arrested near the farm where they had been openly holed up for months. Federal agents tried to persuade other members of the heavily armed group to surrender. LeRoy Schweitzer, 57, and Daniel E. Peterson, 53, were arrested without incident and were to be arraigned in Billings. A third man, Lavon Hanson, 25, was also arrested. Schweitzer, Peterson and 10 others were charged in schemes involving fraudulent checks and money orders.
